Rider FAQ
What does the fee cover?
Your fee covers all the cost of the trip:
Great places to stay
All food
Bottled water throughout
Snacks and sustenance on the road
Two custom made cycling jerseys
A personal dry bag to store of a change of clothes on the van
Security en route

The fee does not cover flights. Flights aren’t included as part of the Ride package. We have riders arriving from all over the world with different travel preferences. You are responsible for getting yourself to your ride starting city for the start of your adventure.
What’s a single room supplement?
In order to fit into the amazing hotels we’ll be staying at on the ride you should expect to share a room with one or two other people. You will be able to say who you would prefer to share with.
When do I need to arrive in Kenya?
We will advise on recommended arrival dates and flights, and details for how to meet us ahead of the start of Ride in Kenya.
What if I don’t raise the £1,800 expected of me?
As part of Ride Africa, you’ll be expected to raise £1,800. You’ll receive lots of support from the Child.org team (find fundraising ideas and inspiration here.) If you don’t reach the £1,800 target, we would encourage you to set up a direct debit of £20 a month to get you to that total.
Will I need a visa and vaccinations?
Yes you will need a visa if arriving from outside Kenya, and most likely vaccinations too. Find our advice on this page.
What insurance shall I get?
You will need to have travel insurance for your visit that includes multi-day cycling and covers Kenya.
What type of bike will I be riding?
You’ll be riding a Diamondback mountain bike. The route will vary in terrain so this bike is the best for this kind of adventure. Your bike will be provided by us and looked after by our amazing cycling team throughout the event.
Riders are very welcome to bring your own pedals and saddle with you, our team will fit these to the bike for you. Otherwise, your bike will be fitted with conventional flat pedals and the original saddle provided with the bike.
Your bike will also be kitted out with lights and water bottles and holders. If you want more than one bottle some riders bring their own Camelbaks or additional water bottles.
What if there’s a problem with my bike (or me)?
There is a support vehicle that travels at the back of the group that will pick up anyone whose bike can’t be fixed on the road or who’s feeling a little under the weather. We also have a fantastic nurse who travels in a jeep in the middle of the group to take care of any injuries. She is wonderful and gives the best hugs.
The cycling team are very experienced cycle guides and they cycle the whole way supporting you mechanically and physically.
You’ll be briefed before every day of cycling where you can ask as many questions as you like.
Our mechanics fix the bikes on the go and are armed with spares and all the puncture repair kits imaginable. So you won’t need to worry about becoming a bike mechanic as part of your training, though it is always handy if you know how to fix a puncture or two.
